WEDDING RESERVATIONS
Thank you for your interest in Key West United Methodist Church as the site of your
pending marriage. As you can imagine, we get a significant number of requests from couples
that wish to be married in our sanctuary. As a result the Church Council and the Pastor
have established a unified set of requirements before we can meet your request.
First of all we require premarital counseling. For locals this generally means a few sessions
with the Pastor spaced out over at least two months. For those of you who are not local we
ask that you contact a local clergy person who will be willing to provide this counseling. The
counseling does not have to be through a United Methodist pastor. The counseling does
need to be through a faith-based counselor. The counseling and your willingness to submit
to counseling are excellent starters for a successful marriage.
Before any date can be committed the Church Council requires receipt of a non-refundable
deposit. The deposit will be applied to the final wedding costs. There is a sliding cost for the
use of the sanctuary, which is determined by the anticipated number of wedding guests,
Please call the church office 305-296-2392 or email us at
keywestumc@bellsouth.net
for further information.
The State of Florida requires all Florida residents to file for a marriage license in advance of the
wedding date, however, this waiting period will be waived and the cost of the license reduced by
$35.00 if premarital counseling is performed by a counselor registered with the District Court.
The license must be obtained from the District Court in whose jurisdiction you currently reside.
For out-of-state residents there is NO waiting period. Theoretically you could obtain the
marriage license the day of the wedding, however, I STRONGLY encourage you to arrive in Key
West with enough time to get the license and make any last minute plans before
the wedding day.
