The Seder is celebrated each year by the Jewish people which symbolically, through food, prayers and actions, retells the night of liberation of the Jews from Pharaoh in Egypt. This meal retells the night the Angel of Death “passed-over” the houses marked with the blood of the lamb. It was this meal that Jesus and his disciples were eating the night Jesus was arrested, the day referred to by Christians as Maundy Thursday.
This year, on Maundy Thursday, which is April 17th, at 6pm in Jones Hall, we will observe the Seder with a symbolic meal followed by a full dinner. We hope you will join us. Children are welcome and will play a part in the Seder. Seating is limited to 50 people. Please register here.
When you register, please let us know if you are able to bring a food item to share. Lou Ann Steely will be providing a few briskets as our main course. We would like to keep the entire meal – Seder focused, so we are asking for some side dishes as well as a lamb dish that fits the theme of authentic Jewish foods. When you sign up you will find some recipe suggestions at the bottom of the sign up page. Please feel free to use those or your own.
