At Key West United Methodist Church we strive every day to be “a loving church where all are welcome.”
We don’t do that perfectly, of course.
We are human and broken. But, it is the driving force of everything we do. We welcome everyone as part of our church family, encouraging one another as we grow closer to Christ. We also embrace God’s call in Micah 6:8 to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. We do this by both creating a safe space for all role to seek the love of Christ and standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
Key West United Methodist Church, also known as The Old Stone Church, has been on the island since 1844. Methodist preaching was first heard on the island in 1832 when two missionaries arrived by schooner. The current church structure is made of coral rock quarried from the site and was built to cover their semi-permanent wooden sanctuary. Upon the completion the old church was dismantled and carried out the front door. Over the years, four Key West Methodist congregations united to form the current church. This congregation strives to honor tradition while embracing new and innovative ways of doing ministry that meet the needs of Key West’s diverse community – often referred to as “One Human Family” an international practice in architecture, urban planning and interior design. We believe in sharing knowledge and promoting dialogue to increase the creative potential of collaboration.
